Prince, Butler, McGrady among players who have reached deals

Here we go.

As free agency is set to begin tomorrow at 2 p.m., there have been multiple reports of various signings that will take place. Here is a list of players who have committed to deals so far, along with some of my (not) expert analysis.

Note: My sources for this information is mainly the twitter accounts of various NBA reporters, most of which can be found on my blogroll on the right side of the page.

1. Caron Butler will sign a 3 year $24 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.
If the Clippers can re-sign free agent center DeAndre Jordan, watch out. This team is young enough to endure the tough compressed season ahead of them, but now also has a couple of veterans (Mo Williams, Caron Butler) that can keep them focused. Butler's durability is a big concern, but there's no doubt that he can and will contribute to this team with his scoring and leadership. Their playoff chances look good.

2. Shane Battier will sign with the Miami Heat.
It looks like the Heat are taking the same approach that the Lakers (Kobe Bryant, Metta World Peace, Matt Barnes) did by stockpiling the league's best perimeter defenders. Battier will join Dwayne Wade and LeBron James as the best defensive trio in the league.

He will be a HUGE impact on this team. His ability to knock down three pointers and guard the opposing team's best player made him one of the most valued free agents on the market, and Miami looks even better now that he's aboard.

3. Tayshaun Prince will re-sign with the Detroit Pistons for four years, $30 million.

What is Tayshaun Prince doing? Detroit is a mess right now (and has been since signing Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon), and when he finally has the opportunity to be a key part of a contending team, he re-ups for four years? Hey, maybe it's loyalty, or maybe he sees a bright future playing with Kyle Singler (yeah right).

4.  Shannon Brown reached an agreement with the Phoenix Suns for a one year deal worth $3.5 million.
This signing is more noteworthy for the Lakers than it is for the Suns. Phoenix is in a tough spot right now and the signing of Brown won't really do much to remedy that. Without Brown, the Lakers lose a quality combo guard who provides energy, athleticism, and shooting.

5. Tracy McGrady will sign a one year deal with the Atlanta Hawks.
Until T-Mac shows what he's got left in the tank, I can't really be sure what him signing with any team means. Atlanta is an interesting choice, but what's the best case scenario? T-Mac filling Jamal Crawford's shoes? Even so, the Hawks are right back to where they've been the last few years: early round playoff exits.

6. Mike Dunleavy Jr will sign with the Milwaukee Bucks for 2 years, $7.5 million.
  This is a solid move for Milwaukee. Dunleavy brings efficient scoring to a team that will definitely need it once the season begins.

7. Greg Oden will re-sign with the Portland Trailblazers for one year.
Poor Greg Oden. Poor Portland. I just hope this works out and Oden can actually play some games injury free this year.
